Latin

The study of Latin is a Cathedral tradition that begins in sixth grade. Synonymous with discipline, concentration, precision, and meticulous analysis, Latin helps students to think logically, focus, and pay attention to detail – all hallmarks of a great scholar. Latin teaches English better than English does, as it entails a thorough understanding of parts of speech and components of sentences, thus supporting students' writing skills. The obvious etymological connections between Latin and English words enable students to develop better reading comprehension skills as well. At its root, the study of Latin is an expression of The Cathedral School's commitment to a rigorous academic program.
