A Geology Tour of the Close

5th grade science students are learning the basics of Geology and the rock cycle. According to National Geographic, “There are three main types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. Each of these rocks are formed by physical changes—such as melting, cooling, eroding, compacting, or deforming—that are part of the rock cycle.” To make this concept more tangible, the students are taking geology tours of the Close. They are looking at the various building exteriors and the outdoor spaces to identify the three types of rock and their uses in construction around the campus.
