Cathedral Students Help Organize City-wide Sustainability Conference

On Saturday, April 14, a Cathedral group of 14 people representing students, teachers, alumni, administrators and trustees attended the 2018 Sustainability Through Student Voices Conference at The Town School. Over 120 people from twenty different schools attended the event. Six current and former Cathedral students helped to organize the conference: Uma Sooran '18 and Luke Resetarits '18, as well as Emily Power '15, Hava Chishti '15, Izzy Koo '16 and Aksel Katz '17. The two faculty organizers for the event were Ken Higgins from Town and Hannah Stebbins from Cathedral. Participants attended workshops on a range of environmental topics and developed an action plan in the concluding session. Cathedral science teacher Deja Williams presented a workshop, as did Cathedral alumni Emily Power and Aksel Katz. Participants also attended a timely key note address by Carl Pope, former executive director of The Sierra Club, and wrote letters to elected officials on pressing environmental issues.
