High School Counseling

    • High School Counseling at The Cathedral School

At The Cathedral School, the high school counseling process is a thoughtful, individualized journey that begins in the spring of seventh grade and continues through commencement. Our goal is to guide students and families toward secondary schools where each student will be challenged, inspired, and supported—schools that will nurture their strengths, spark new interests, and help them grow into their fullest potential.

We approach this work with the same care and intentionality that define our middle school program. Seventh and eighth grade are years of significant growth—academically, socially, and personally. Students deepen their self-awareness, learn to advocate for themselves, and develop the skills to present their authentic selves with confidence. These milestones naturally prepare them for the next step in their education and for the application process itself.
Through individual meetings, family conferences, and close collaboration with faculty, we help each student identify what they are looking for in a high school experience and explore a wide range of options. Our students apply to and thrive in a variety of settings—independent day and boarding schools, specialized public schools, Catholic schools, and beyond. Cathedral graduates are known not only for their academic preparedness but also for their kindness, curiosity, resilience, and ability to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Where Our Graduates Go

Cathedral graduates are well-prepared to excel in a wide range of settings. Each year, our students are accepted to selective independent day and boarding schools, competitive public and specialized schools, and parochial schools. They go on to pursue higher education at top colleges and universities across the country and around the world.

Our alumni often share that the skills, habits, and values they developed at Cathedral—confidence, curiosity, empathy, and resilience—have been key to their success well beyond our walls.

No matter where they go next, Cathedral alumni often tell us that the foundation they built here—both in and out of the classroom—has made all the difference.
