Fourth Graders Explore Symbiosis in the Library
Librarian Kathleen Roberts led 4th graders through a hands-on project supporting their exploration of ecosystems and animal relationships in science class! Students first defined what a symbiotic relationship is and explored common examples, before diving deep into one particular relationship featured in How to Clean a Hippopotamus by Steve Jenkins.
Working in groups, students collaborated to visualize their symbiotic relationship on the library tables, creating pictures and diagrams to bring their examples to life. Each group then capped off the class by teaching their peers about their chosen relationship, turning the library into a hub of budding scientific researchers.
Ask a 4th grader why a plover walks into a crocodile's mouth next time you see one of our young ecologists. They just might surprise you!
