Installation of Erica L. Corbin
For the first time in over 18 years, The Cathedral School hosted the Installation of a Head of School in The Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Friday, October 14. Hundreds of students, parents, alumni, current and former faculty and staff, independent school professionals, and friends filled the Nave of the Cathedral and enjoyed a ceremony highlighting members of the School and Cathedral community as they celebrated Erica Corbin’s official Installation as Cathedral’s 19th Head of School. Ms. Corbin commented on the delayed timing of this event and said in her remarks:
“An Installation is an event that typically happens in the early days of a new Head of School, as a way to formally welcome new leadership and introduce them to the community. After the year we have had, I gotta say, ‘I think we know each other pretty well by now.’ But as I’ve thought more about it, this tradition truly serves as a way of making commitments and standing by them. It serves as a way of showing up for one another. It serves as a way of remembering that we belong to each other.”
The long-awaited nature of the event lent itself to the sense of excitement and spirit of joy in the room—an apt sentiment as Katie Conway, President of the Board of Trustees, recalled the following:
“Throughout the Head of School interview process, one of the questions we asked candidates was to add a wildcard eighth Core Value. Erica chose joy. And while we were disappointed to not be able to hold this Installation last year given the ongoing pandemic, it is actually a gift that we can now celebrate Erica’s leadership with the knowledge of the joy she has brought already and look forward to the wonderful joys to come.”
