Cathedral enjoyed another cherished in-person milestone last week with the 8th Grade Celebration and Pin Ceremony. The event was held in Synod Hall with ample space for 8th grade families to attend as well as faculty and staff.
The Celebration began with a group of students reciting Cathedral A to Z—using each letter of the alphabet to describe a Cathedral memory. Then a group of students performed an original dance entitled “Taking It Back.” Earlier, the class had nominated Angela O. ‘22 to represent them as class speaker. “Just like the beautiful peacocks that spread their feathers on campus, we too must expand and broaden, embarking on a new adventure. No matter where we go and how far we travel, there is nothing like our Cathedral family,” she told her classmates.
After a video montage of the class throughout the years, the event highlight was the Pin Ceremony. Our graduating 8th graders were called forward in groups based on which Core Value faculty believed they most exemplified—Cooperation, Courage, Integrity, Kindness, Passion for Learning, Respect, or Responsibility. The event also featured the announcement of next year’s new Spirit and Banner Carriers, Theo R. ‘23 and Lea M. ‘23. The Celebration concluded with an original poem entitled “These Years.” As a right of passage, for the rest of the school year 8th graders can wear clothing of their choice in lieu of a Cathedral uniform as long as they wear their new pins.
