PEACOCK Presents at US Assembly

Students representing the Upper School environmental club or PEACOCK performed two skits at US assembly on Monday. The skits were designed to help educate students on two important environmental issues at school, proper separation of waste in the cafeteria and making the switch to green cleaning supplies. In the first skit, Ben Ghatan ‘18 acted as a game show host and instructed the audience of students in grades 5-8 to shout “yes” or “no” as volunteers Isabel Zhu ‘18, Miranda Ewing ‘20, Natalia German ‘20, Elena Zhu ‘20 and Annabelle Gallo ‘20 each placed a commonly used item from the cafeteria in one of three bins; recycling, compost and garbage. Luke Resetarits ‘18 introduced the skit and Susannah Zimmermann '20 provided the closing line, “when in doubt throw out”. In the second skit, Beverly Darrow ‘20 and Jesse Pollock ‘21 were given an individual squirt bottle of cleaning solution with the label hidden. They each cleaned half of a butter stained glass surface. The audience was surprised to see that the green cleaning solution actually cleaned better than the non-green one. Della Katz ‘21, Madeleine Brodeur ‘19 and Georgia Goettel ‘20 provided key information to accompany the demonstration including the fact that Cathedral School recently made the switch to green cleaning supplies. The audience was encouraged to use green cleaning products at home.
