Students attend Young Men of Color Symposium

On Saturday, November 11th, six Upper School students and two Cathedral School alumni attended the Young Men of Color Symposium at Riverdale School, along with Mr. Saldana as their faculty advisor. The daylong conference focuses on participants learning skills that help build more inclusive independent schools. The symposium has grown steadily since its founding just a few years ago; this year over 40 independent schools sent representative to the conference. The keynote speaker Jondou Chase Chen, is the co-director of the National SEED Project, a “peer-led professional development program that creates conversational communities to drive personal, organizational, and societal change toward greater equity and diversity.” Mr. Chen highlighted his own journey as a young immigrant learning English and navigating his own identity growing up in America. Thank you to our student and faculty representatives for their participation and collaboration with other schools!
