Rising Stars Shine at Absalom Jones Benefit

The Rising Stars After School Dance and Video Club, led by Ms. Brooks, helped get the party started at Thursday’s Absalom Jones Benefit with their music video performance of Cotton Eye Joe. The group featured students in grades 2-4, and the entire performance was choreographed and edited by Ms. Brooks. The full music video can be viewed here.

The Rising Stars integrate so much of what it means to be a Cathedral student with Cooperation and Passion for Learning at the forefront and Ms. Brooks helping students be an integral element of the creative process. “My philosophy is to have the students be a part of the process,” said Ms. Brooks. “How can we work together to create something? It’s not just me teaching them dance or movement—it’s a partnership, and a lot of what we come up with is done together.”

A wonderful reminder what The Cathedral School is all about, the performance served as a high-energy way to kick off this year’s Absalom Jones Benefit, segueing into remarks from Ms. Corbin, Head of School, and Ms. Lora, Associate Head of Upper School. The Benefit was filled with delicious food, dancing, and fun as parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends all came together in support of financial aid at the Cathedral School. Immense thanks to 2023 Absalom Jones Benefit co-chairs Jenni Bounds, Cynthia Pai, and Marguerite Sheehan, emcee Rob Keefe, and everyone who helped make this year’s Benefit such an extraordinary success.
