It's Book Season

Author Visits–Recap and Upcoming
Another successful week of author visits is in the books! Last week 1st and 2nd grade welcomed Tricia Elam Walker, who shared Nana Akua Goes to School. 6th and 7th grade enjoyed hearing from Veronica Chambers and Jennifer Harlan, co-authors of Call and Response: The Story of Black Lives Matter. Chambers and Harlan are both best-selling authors and journalists for the New York Times, and this powerful book explores the history of the BLM movement through photographs, quotes, and text. You can watch a recording of their 6th and 7th grade Zoom session here.

Throughout these author visits, students have been engaged and asking thoughtful questions. The final two author visits will be Emma Otheguy who will visit 3rd grade on Tuesday, November 16, to present her book Silver Meadows Summer and share more about her work writing about Latin American history and Latine identity. And finally, on November 22, David Zirin will visit 8th grade to present his book The Kaepernick Effect—a book that explores a national movement of citizen-athletes fighting for racial justice.
