Virtual Convocation Celebrates Cathedral Community

At Cathedral, Convocation is an annual celebration that calls together members of the community to mark the start of a new school year. One highlight and tradition at Convocation is a procession of 8th Grade and Kindergarten students who walk down the center aisle in the Cathedral side-by-side holding hands. To carry on this tradition in a safe manner this year, the procession and several readings took place in-person in the Cathedral and were pre-recorded. The students processed while holding colorfully decorated pool noodles to ensure they remained six feet apart. This pre-recorded section was then supplemented by  virtual readings and musical performances including spectacular contributions by the Choristers and Upper School Music. The entire community watched the final product on Friday, October 23. After watching Convocation with her daughter Rae ‘26, Parent and PA Co-President Jamie Roth declared, “Never again will I look at a pool noodle without a piece of my heart melting.”

In her Convocation address, Head of School Marsha Nelson said, “We opened our service today by processing down the aisle of this stunning Cathedral, not hand-in-hand as in years past, but still beautifully connected in a safe and supportive way. Seeing our youngest and our oldest students walk down the aisle is a powerful and tangible reminder that our Cathedral School community is strong, solid, supportive, and able to adapt to new and challenging circumstances–all the while, staying true to the mission and Core Values that make us who we are.” To all in the community, we wish health and happiness in the year ahead!
