3rd Grade Simple Machine Engineering Challenge Presentations

3rd Grade has been hard at work in Ms. Zapreva's class building mechanisims that can successfully transport an egg from the top of the structure to the bottom without breaking. Split into groups of three to four, they created the machines by connecting pieces of plastic K'Neks. The structures had to be at least as tall as the shortest person in the group; the tallest was measured at four feet! The students presented their engineering masterpieces to their parents and special guests, including two visiting engineers, Bryan Duncan and James Hammonds, who asked thoughtful questions about the presentations. The project required team building and critical thinking as well as trial and error since most of the groups shared that they had to rebuild their stucture more than once to make it work properly. Each presentation was successfully executed as not one egg broke! View more photos in the album on the right.
