Author Jerry Craft Visits Cathedral

By Ricca Gaus
Last week, the 5th and 6th grades were excited to welcome author and graphic novelist Jerry Craft to visit in the library. He talked about his work and his lifelong love of comic books, which inspired him to create characters that reflected his own experiences. His most recent book, New Kid, has been extremely popular with Cathedral students and has earned several starred reviews from professional journals. The semi-autobiographical story centers around a middle school aged boy who lives in Washington Heights, but attends a prestigious school in the Bronx. He deals with being one of only a few students of color in his class. Many of our students connected with Jerry’s work and were excited to ask him questions about his work schedule, his inspirations, and his favorite sports teams. A big thank you to the Parents' Association, and especially Deb Seager, for organizing the event and bringing such a relevant and significant author to speak with our students!
