Fall Literary Stage at Cathedral House

This past Friday, a group of 5th, 6th, and 7th graders gathered at Cathedral House for Student Council's first Literary Stage event of the year.  Student Council hosts two Lit Stages per year as an opportunity for students to support one another outside of the classroom while learning challenging literary works.  Fifteen students recited poems on the theme of "certitude" for friends, family, faculty and staff.

After a warm welcome by Cristina T. '19, our Student Council President, Elijah Sa. 20 read a poem composed by our poet emerita, Ms. Linda Brown, especially for the event.  Poems ranged from the 11th c. poet Omar Khayyam to the 20th c. French poetry of Paul Éluard and a poem from Jamaal May's 2016 collection, The Big Book of Exit Strategies.  Poems were recited by...

5th graders: Angela, Avery, Luna, Ranya
6th graders: Aahan, Bennett, Jesse, Julian, Paula, Rachel, Sofia
7th graders: Ben L., Calum, Elijah, Graham

Addy, Lara, and Will (7th graders) had also prepared poems but were unable to attend.

Student Council would like to thank Mr. Donaldson, Dr. Paredez, and Ms. Valentine for their poem suggestions; our 8th graders, Anna, Carter, Cristina, Hara, Jake, Oscar, Peter, Sabine, and Stella for helping pick and rehearse poems; Dr. Anagnostopoulou for assisting Aahan with the pronunciation of his poem in French; Ms. Altdorf and Mr. Roth for generously assisting our workshops; and Chef Whittle for hosting our reception.

Special thanks goes to Susannah for helping to coordinate our poetry workshops, and to both Calum and Georgia for helping set up the event.

Please mark your calendars for our Spring Lit Stage on Friday, April 12!
