What is Spirit Week?

Spirit Week is an online celebration of the wonder and spirit of The Cathedral School—our first-ever! Stop by a Spirit Session on Zoom; enjoy stories from Cathedral School families, faculty, and alumni; and join in the conversation by sharing your own.

Then, help us pay tribute to Cathedral legends Ann Bryant, John Vitale, and Patti Welch by recording a farewell video or sharing a memory as they embark on exciting new adventures.

This website will be updated with videos and new content throughout Spirit Week, so check back often. And be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram as well!

If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement by emailing spiritweek@cathedralnyc.org.

Thank you for sharing the spirit of Cathedral!

ATTN: CATHEDRAL SCHOOL ALUMNI!

An anonymous donor has offered a $5,000 Alumni Spirit Challenge Grant if we are able to increase our number of alumni donors by 50% before June 30, 2020. We’re getting close, but we still need your help to claim this grant! Please consider paying tribute to your Cathedral School experience by making a gift to the 2019-2020 Annual Fund.

Check out the following ways to join the fun!

Spirit Videos

What is the Cathedral School Spirit? Hear from the people who know it best—Cathedral School alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, and friends! Like us on Facebook, follow @cathedralnyc on Instagram, and follow #CathedralSpirit for at least three daily Spirit Stories. Click here to view our latest Spirit Videos!

Share a Written Spirit Story, or Enter the Spirit Week Coloring Contest!

Inspired by what you see and hear? Share your own Spirit Story by submitting a written piece via this Google Form. Maybe it’s a quick anecdote that perfectly captures the spirit of our community, or maybe it’s a longer reflection on what Cathedral has meant to you and your family—either way, we want to hear from you! Click here to share your thoughts.
You can also share your Cathedral School story by recording a video and uploading directly to Facebook or Instagram—be sure to tag us @cathedralnyc and #CathedralSpirit!

But wait, there’s more! The written story named “Most Spirited” by Head of School Marsha K. Nelson and a panel of Cathedral School faculty will receive a limited edition Cathedral School pennant, handmade by Oxford Pennants in Buffalo, New York, and three Honorable Mentions will receive a Cathedral School Moleskine Notebook. Don’t miss this chance to share your story and claim these special spirit souvenirs!

Students can also celebrate the Cathedral spirit by sharing their own spirit of creativity and entering the Spirit Week Coloring Contest!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to design/execute a new pennant OR banner that captures the spirit of our Cathedral School community! These can be created with any medium, using any materials—be creative! This means you may print out this packet and color/design directly on the paper; draw and color your own; or cut/craft/create on any other material you would like to use. Please click here for more information.

The contest begins on Monday, May 11, and all submissions must be received by 6 PM on Saturday, May 16. The winning entry will be announced in the May 19 edition of the Peacock Post. The creator of the pennant/banner named “Most Spirited” by a panel of community members including Ms. Marsha K. Nelson, Ms. Kristie Valentine, Mr. Brian Delacey, Chef Michelle Whittle, and other stalwarts of spirit will receive… drum roll, please… a 1/2-size serving pan of Chef Whittle's Baked Macaroni & Cheese! (Details and timeline TBD)

Please submit your entry by emailing all three of the following elements to spiritweek@cathedralnyc.org:
  1. A clear photo or scan of your pennant/banner
  2. A photo of you holding your pennant/banner—big smiles!
  3. Student’s name/grade
