Cathedral Chanukah Celebration

This past Thursday, our community gathered in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine for our annual Chanukah Celebration. The program featured music, art, prayer, and the Lighting of the Menorah.

The Celebration began with The Shehecheyanu; A Blessing of the Beginnings, led by Gabrielle B. ‘24, Sophia C. ‘24, and Alex B. ‘25. This was followed by a performance of The Chanukiah sung by the 1st grade, accompanied by the 3rd grade on percussive instruments and led by Ms. Mannarino. After that, Clara G. ‘24 shared a wonderful reflection with the community, and several other members of the Jewish Affinity Group had the opportunity to speak. To conclude the proceedings, the 6th grade performed The Chanukah Song (We Are Lights) led by Ms. McGetrick, members of JAG lit the Menorah, and Cantorial Student Sierra Fox from Hebrew Union College shared The Chanukah Message.

Thank you to the 6th grade and Mr. Delacey for creating the art offering, which was a 7’x7’ mural inspired by Marc Chagall’s stained glass windows for Chanukah. The piece featured each 6th grader holding a candle for the festival of lights. A special thank you also to the Jewish Affinity Group and Co-Advisors Ms. Geringer-Dunn and Ms. Zimmerman for planning and organizing a wonderful Celebration. View photos in the right-hand column.
