The Cathedral School is proud to honor Dr. Thelma C. Davidson Adair at its 2012 Absalom Jones Benefit. A Harlem icon, known to some as the “Village Mother of Harlem,” Dr. Adair has served her community for over six decades as a writer, educator, church leader, and advocate of human rights, peace, and justice. Answer the Call from the Heart!
Absalom Jones was an abolitionist and clergyman who was born into slavery in 1746. He purchased his freedom in 1783, and became the first African American to be ordained as a priest of the Episcopal Church.
